What is Hosting?

Hosting is allowing us to install a small computer device and outdoor antenna for the purpose of expanding a long-range IoT network. We need hosts because hotspots must be at least 400 meters apart to provide new or unique network coverage. For this reason, we value our hosts highly and pay them monthly for the service they provide. Hosting with us is completely free , and our hosts receive 20% of the hotspot's rewards.

By hosting a Helium Hotspot, you are allowing The People's Network to expand for the use of everyone around you. Each hotspot alone can provide up to miles of wireless network coverage for millions of devices around you using Helium LongFi, and you receive passive income for hosting.

Hotspots work off an innovative proof-of-work model Helium refers to as "Proof-of-Coverage" and use only 5W of energy, less than a standard LED light bulb. This allows hotspots to be placed nearly anywhere there is an Internet connection, running off standard electrical power. Due to the low power and data usage of Helium hotspots, they can operate at almost no cost to hosts, using available bandwidth and 5W of energy at most.

The amount you will earn varies on many factors. Each location is unique and will earn a different amount. Some of the factors that affect mining rewards are quality of the location (height and surroundings), how many hotspots are nearby, and how many devices are connected to the network. Earnings may also vary due to market fluctuations of cryptocurrency markets.
